Artists at the heart of Cumberlandia

Cumberlandia is much more than just a fantastic weekend of great music; it’s about joining in, making new connections, having your creativity inspired, and feeling part of a community. That said, the artists performing on our stages play a crucial role in making all of that happen – we carefully choose performers who ‘get’ the ethos of the festival and share its values of reciprocity, kindness and equality, to help us make a temporary space in the fabric of our everyday lives where we can collectively imagine a more hopeful and sustainable future.

Everyone is ‘appearing’ at Cumberlandia, bringing our best selves to the party to share in moments of collective joy, but our artists appear even more prominently on our stages, inspiring us with their creative offerings and imagination. Here’s a little reminder of the great performers who graced our stages last year:

This year, we have some super artists booked for the weekend, including:

  • Headliners nu-folk virtuoso Sam Lee and band, festival legend Rory McLeod, Amy Thatcher’s ever-so-cheeky Re:Vulva, the inimitable Granny’s Attic and the heady vibes of An Dannsa Dub to lose yourself in

  • We’re also delighted to welcome some up and coming names from the UK folk world to Cumberlandia, including Chiara Imbalzano Hilton & Alex Walters, Johnny Campbell and Lucy Huzzard & Hazel Thompson

  • And of course, we have plenty of local acts from our immediate community, including Bitterbeck, JP Worsfold and the Band of Gold, Ian O’Regan, Quickbeam, The Mowdies, The Shanty Lads, Tryckster and Yis Aye.

  • We have guest appearances from other Cumbrian artists including Carolyn Francis, The Clifford Movement and Stew Simpson

  • This year, we also have a Cumberlandia Folk Club where we’re presenting short sets from talented artists like The Celandines, The Meteorite, Pete Garnett and Wild Sparrow.

And of course, there are lots of opportunities to get involved, including loads of music sessions in our on-site village pub (the Cumberland Arms) as well as the Cumberlandia Choir, Tim Elvin’s  Moss Troopers and the Wierdstring Ceilidh – more detail on all of that coming up!
